The laboratories of knowledges

The laboratories of knowledges are spaces to co-imagine and invent the world we desire, in community. We are convinced that things are not this way by nature — they are simply as they are, and could be as we wish if we are capable not only of imagining them, but of having the courage to bring them into being. We urgently need to imagine another possible world.

For that we need co-inspirers: people with the capacity to listen, to integrate difference, to think with the heart, to feel with the mind, and to place themselves at the service of the community. Through collective co-inspiration, we seek to respond to the complexity and scope that the problems facing our human condition in this historical-cultural moment demand.

In this sense, dialogue is the royal road to this adventure of exploring knowledges.

Prison as a practice of freedom

Organized byUniversidad Liberté · Learning and Organizational Development Research Team (IRICE-CONICET-UNR)

In this cycle we seek to radically overturn the failed treatment approach, proposing a path of existential enablement learning —both individual and collective— toward the recovery of freedom. It is about building together a new perspective on incarceration, grounded in life, education for freedom, and care, that can offer public policy a decisive shift.

We will begin this collective adventure by dialoguing about two fundamental, cross-cutting themes: freedom and restorative and therapeutic justice. We start from the premise that people, in many cases, lack a process of self-knowledge and the development of potentials that remain repressed and/or dormant. It is in this sense that we invite a deepening into seven aspects that, from our perspective, make up a process of existential enablement learning for living in FREEDOM, that is, in COMMUNITY.

9 sessions, 9 knowledges in dialogue

Two cross-cutting themes followed by seven aspects of existential enablement learning. These knowledges will gain depth throughout the cycle.

01

Freedom Cross-cutting theme

What do we mean by freedom when we speak of people in prison? Opening the dialogue: philosophical, legal, and everyday frameworks.

02

Restorative and therapeutic justice Cross-cutting theme

Alternative paradigms to punishment: repairing harm, restoring social bonds, healing the person and the community.

03

Self-knowledge

Inhabiting one's own history. Recognizing dormant or repressed potentials. The starting point of every existential enablement process.

04

Contact with nature

Reconnecting with living cycles. The earth, water, plants, and animals as teachers and as belonging.

05

Physical exercise

The body as a territory of freedom. Movement, play, and sport as vehicles for health, discipline, and connection.

06

Artistic skills

Art as the language of the soul. Music, visual arts, theatre, and writing as pathways to expression and transformation.

07

Formal or non-formal education

A sustained learning journey that opens horizons and restores the condition of thinking subject.

08

Decent work

Meaning, craft, and livelihood. Work as a practice of citizenship and as a bridge to the world beyond confinement.

09

Community service

Living in freedom is living in community. The possibility of giving back, of contributing, of being an active part of the social fabric.
