Sowing autonomy, harvesting community

Cultivando Soberanía continues the formative processes begun in 2025, deepening content linked to agroecology, healthy eating, conscious waste management and community organisation. This is its second cohort, now open to broader communities in Argentina and the region.

Cultivando Soberanía places particular emphasis on the agency of people and communities to make decisions and exercise direct control over their food and immediate environment. Food as a cultural, political and affective good; land as a bond, not a commodity.

This diploma draws on sustained territorial work inside the maximum-security prison of Batán, where for several years Cooperativa Liberté has been driving agroecological projects including vegetable gardens, artisanal food production and composting experiences. What was learned there becomes educational material for the whole community.

Throughout, the gender perspective and recognition of care work as a central political practice are addressed. Cultivating sovereignty is cultivating bonds.

6 thematic pillars

The gender perspective and the ethics of care run cross-cuttingly through all pillars.

01

Food Sovereignty and Community Autonomy Cross-cutting

The right to decide what, how and for whom food is produced. Food sovereignty, social justice, equitable access, autonomy against dependency models. Food as a cultural, political and affective good.

02

Popular Agroecology and Crops in Small Spaces

Agroecological gardens in patios, balconies and community spaces. Regenerative practices, bioinput production, soil and biodiversity care, seed propagation, growing in reused containers.

03

Composting, Recycling and Conscious Waste Management

Domestic and community composting, source separation, recycling, creative reuse, environmental awareness from daily life. Closing cycles, returning to the earth.

04

Artisanal Foods, PUPAAs and a Culture of Eating Well

Popular knowledge: ferments, bread, preserves, jams, natural drinks. PUPAAs (Small Artisanal Food Production Units), food safety, good practices, self-supply.

05

Sustainable Habitat and Construction with Recovered Materials

The right to inhabit dignified and healthy spaces. Bioconstruction, design with recycled materials, green roofs, natural insulation. Thinking of the home as an ecosystem, not a commodity.

06

Ecology of Care and Solidarity Networks Cross-cutting

Care for oneself, for others and for the environment. Mutual support networks, collective organisation, interdependence. Care as a political practice and as the fabric that sustains life.

What you want to know before signing up

Is there any cost?
It has no cost for you: it is 100% subsidized. The diploma does have a real cost (teaching, platform, organisation), but it is fully covered by the Comunidad Liberté: the work of the teaching team and the contributions of those who support the project. If you want to join that community, you can be a supporter at universidadliberte.org/donar.
Do I need prior studies?
No. The diploma is open to everyone with no need to prove formal studies. What we ask is interest, commitment and availability for the synchronous meetings.
How exactly is the course structured?
The course runs in two combined modalities:
  • One live class per month — the 3rd Friday of each month, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM (Argentina time) on Zoom. There are 7 synchronous meetings in total, from 19 June to 18 December 2026.
  • Weekly practical activity by email — each week you receive the material and the assignment to submit on the Virtual Campus.
Total: 108 clock hours of study over 6 months.
I attended the 2025 edition. Can I join again?
Yes, we're waiting for you! This 2nd edition deepens what was begun in 2025 and opens the training to a wider community. We renewed content, added new teachers and deepened the pillars with what was learned. The diploma is a collective process, not fixed content: it changes with those who go through it. Sign up with the same ID document and it goes in your Instituto history.
What do I need to attend?
Internet access and Zoom for the monthly meetings. If you are in a prison facility in the Province of Buenos Aires where Liberté has a presence, we coordinate access via FM radio and the University Student Centers.
What's required to get certified?
Attend at least 75% of the synchronous meetings (at least 6 of the 7 monthly meetings) and submit the practical activities. Attendance is validated with your ID document from the Liberté certificate portal. The University Extension Diploma is issued by the Universidad Nacional de Mar del Plata — Facultad de Ciencias de la Salud y Trabajo Social (Secretaría de Extensión).
Are spots limited?
There are 1,000 spots with the option to expand based on demand. We recommend signing up as soon as possible to secure your spot and receive all notices.
Can I develop a project in my territory?
Yes, it's optional. Those who wish can develop a project in their community applying what they've learned — a vegetable garden, a composter, a PUPAA, an experience with recovered materials — in coordination with local organisations. The Liberté team accompanies that process.
How will you contact me after I sign up?
A confirmation email arrives instantly with all the details. A few days before the start we write again with the Zoom link and Campus access. If you don't hear from us before 12 June, write to us at formacion@universidadliberte.org.

Did you attend the 2025 edition?

We're waiting for you again. This 2nd edition deepens what was worked on in 2025 and opens the training to a wider community. Those who already went through the diploma come with different questions — and that enriches the whole cohort. Sign up with the same ID document and it goes in your Instituto history.
